

The Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb
The carrier of the project Topotheque âZagreb historical centerâ in the beginning was The Faculty of Croatian Studies of the University of Zagreb founded on the 16 November 1992. Since 2021 this role is taken by State archives in Zagreb. As pivotal higher education and scientific research institution of the University of Zagreb and of the Republic of Croatia, The Croatian Studies (since 2020 The Faculty of Croatian Studies) performe and coordinate scientific, educational and research activities in the areas of humanities and social sciences and in the interdisciplinary field of science, in particular in the research of the Croatian society and in the field of study and affirmation of the Croatian science, education and culture in the Republic of Croatia and worldwide.
Divison of History is one of the main Croatian Studies divisions and all the archival materials that are published on this web-site is gatherd and elaborated during two courses of this Division (Humanities in the Information age and Archivistics for historians).
This project started as a result of collaboration of the Croatian Studies and ICARUS-HR consorzium which as a main gole retaines connect the practical work of the students of history with a digital humanities work experience.
Since 2021 the carrier of the project became State Archives in Zagreb.
The State Archives in Zagreb
The State Archives in Zagreb was founded in 1907 as the Zagreb City Archives under the administration of the "Brethren of the Croatian Dragon" Society. Today, the State Archives in Zagreb is a public institution of particular importance to the Republic of Croatia that stores and maintains archival material created by administrative and public services, justice, educational, cultural, social and health institutions, business entities, banks, monetary institutions, parties, societies, foundations and organisations, as well as family and personal fonds and various collections ranging from the 13th to the 21st century.
The territorial spectrum of the Archives includes the City of Zagreb, the majority of Zagreb County and part of the Krapina-Zagorje County.
The Archives has archival materal in its storage totalling 12,000 running meters categorised in 1,269 archival fonds and collections.
The Archives is housed in two locations - OpatiÄka 29 and Avenija Dubrovnik 36.
The 3 000 m2 storage area at Avenija Dubrovnik 36 meets the latest European and global standards and represents a state-of-the-art storage area amongst the State Archives in the Republic of Croatia.
The Archives' New Reading Room was opened in 2005 and has 24 seats and is equipped with 4 microreaders and 2 computers.
On average, around 1,700 users visit the Archives every year and approximately 6000 requests are being processed which makes us the second most visited archive in Croatia, right after the central Croatian State Archives.
